Testing
EntroGen I have just been informed of this company. Their approach is a test that can be performed locally which should greatly reduce the cost of testing. Very hopeful possibilities. More information to follow.
Molecular Diagnostic Laboratories Test Cost: $390. Turn around time is only three days. Kudos to MDL Labs for taking the proactive approach in testing education. Their web site has been updated and I am informed will offer even more DPD testing information in the near future. The site has the potential of becoming a one-stop shop for information and testing needs. Definitely worthwhile to share this company’s information with your treatment provider.
Laboratory Corporation Of America (LABCORP) offers the testing. The specific test is located here: DPD 5-Fluorouracil Toxicity. Their publication supporting test before chemotherapy: LABCORP Capsule. According to a representative, their test cost is approximately $441. Test Number: 511176 CPT Code: 83891; 83892; 83894; 83898; 83912 Update: In August, 2009 my son was tested at our doctor’s request by LABCORP for DPD Deficiency and there were no out of pocket expenses for testing as a precautionary measure. One hundred percent covered by our insurance provider.
Genelex No pricing available but the information is fairly straightforward and worth reviewing.
Transdermal Patch There is a recent patent application for a 5-FU laced skin patch for determining sensitivity. Imagine the simplicity if its accurate. I’ve contacted the patent lawyers and they’ve forwarded my request to find the status of this product.
Cheryl’s oncologist used low risk and financial hardship over the holidays as reasons not to order testing. Decide for yourself if that rationale holds water after the risks and cost we’ve provided on this site.
